Rob49 described Let Me Fly as a personal leap — not just musically, but spiritually. The title was inspired by motivational videos and a deep desire to finally "take his turn" after years of grinding. He emphasized that the album isn't about grand statements — it’s about being real, vibing, and trusting your path. “It wasn’t some big metaphor. I just felt like, yeah… it’s time.”
This new project showcases his evolution as a storyteller. Where WTHELLY was raw and reactionary, Let Me Fly offers more depth, honesty, and intention. And yet, it still carries that same Rob49 edge — gritty, grounded, and unmistakably New Orleans.
Reflecting on his roots, Rob49 shared how growing up in the Fourth and Ninth Wards shaped his rhythm and sound. “In NOLA, we don't always hit the beat — sometimes we ride it sideways,” he said. He credits his influences to legends like Lil Wayne, Slick Rick, and the energy of street musicians drumming on buckets. That off-kilter approach gives his music its signature bounce and unpredictability.
Despite his rise, Rob49 remains committed to staying connected to his audience. “I’m still on the come-up, just like the people listening to me,” he said. His marketing strategy is rooted in authenticity — creating visuals that feel lived-in and real, capturing the feeling of being outside. He encourages up-and-coming artists to match visuals with sound and not overthink the process: “Live your everyday life and build from there.”
When asked if life has changed since WTHELLY went viral, Rob49 smiled: “Not really. I just be vibin’.” He predicted the song’s success and now watches its viral use on TikTok like a proud observer. Still, he doesn’t overplay the hit: “I don’t even listen to it anymore. People say the craziest things to me about it, and I just laugh.”
Rob49 wants new fans to know he’s not a one-note artist. If you liked WTHELLY, wait until you hear what’s next. I got songs for every type of mood — deep, light, gritty, funny. He touched on how he stopped overthinking. “Now I just say what comes to my head.” My mom told me to, and it’s been working.” He also shared his passion for supporting rising talent: “I want to bring up the next generation — I’m looking to collab with young talent coming up, not just the biggest names.” For Rob49, making music isn’t a solo journey.
While he acknowledges the cultural impact of WTHELLY, Rob49 isn’t stuck in the moment. He’s thinking long-term: “I want people to say Rob49 was someone who kept growing, someone who didn’t stop at the first hit. I’m just getting started.”
With Let Me Fly, Rob49 is carving out his own lane. The album reflects a mindset shift — embracing risk, trusting his instincts, and letting the music speak for itself. It’s about pushing past limitations, staying true to where he came from, and showing the world there’s still more to come.
When asked if he had a favorite song, he said, “All of them. I made sure I loved every one of 'em.”
Rob49 has his new album releasing Friday, May 23rd on all streaming platforms!
